What is Spread?

In trading crypto-assets it describes the difference between the buy price and the sell price of a cryptocurrency.

Let's use an example:

Imagine you're at a currency exchange booth at the airport. You see these rates:

They buy for USD 1.00 = EUR 0.90

They sell for USD 1.00 = EUR 0.95

The difference (0.05 = 0.95 - 0.90) is the spread.

Trading Fees

Trading fees are usually expressed in % and are the easiest to compare.

When comparing make sure to include the spread and potential other fees that add up to the base price in the calculation - 1% of 100 is less than 1% of 105.

If a crypto platform doesn't show you a trading fee, it’s because they don’t have to. Instead, they usually hide it in the spread or they might get a hidden fee or kickback from the intermediaries they use to execute your trades.
