Contest winner - Alo Alo

Would you consider yourself a professional trader or more a hobby trader?

I absolutely consider myself a hobby trader, and a beginner at that.

What was your plan from the beginning, and did you stick to that plan, or did you adjust it?

I entered the competition just for fun, without any plan.

How many times per day did you monitor your strategy? Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night to check the market?

Very often, especially in the last eight or nine days. Even at night.

Which asset really pulled you to the top?

Waves.

Do you usually rebalance with the same risk as you did during the contest? Less risky/ riskier?

I don’t consider myself someone who holds back when trading, so I always take a big part of the risk. It was the same during the competition.

Tell us your best Crypto Story, (for example, how much profit you made with some specific altcoin, or have you ever sent any wrong transactions).

The most interesting thing is that from my entry into ICONOMI in August until November 22, so also a good three weeks of competition, I had only one structure, because I did the changes of structures incorrectly and they were not taken into account, so I did not know what was “pulling” me down or up at some point. When I found out what I was doing wrong I was in second place, and from then until the end of the competition I made over 300 rebalances and finished first. Beginner's luck.

What would you suggest for other managers on the platform?

Actually nothing, probably everyone is a “maher” in this area and everyone sticks to the plan he thinks is best for him. However, it is true that if I gave my money to one of the managers in "management," I would give it to someone who makes at least 30, and even more, rebalances per month, than to someone who makes two, three, or even after months none.

Would you consider yourself a professional trader or more a hobby trader?

I am a web developer by trade, and definitely somewhere in between a pro and a hobby trader. I have mostly been holding crypto, but trading smaller amounts since 2015 to build experience in trading, and I have been following plenty of blogs and listening to podcasts to really know the market inside out. Trading-wise, I use TradingView a lot and take a lot from the perspectives posted there.

What was your plan from the beginning, and did you stick to that plan or did you adjust it?

My plan was to follow my brand new method, which tries to identify what kind of trend the market is in. I use a bunch of different indexes and indicators, and then set the strategy to match the identified trend. I stuck to this plan for the whole month.

How many times per day did you monitor your strategy? Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night to check the market?

I monitored the strategy more than usual, and rebalanced nearly every day, as I was experimenting using my new approach on smaller time scales (like looking at 1-hour charts). Which requires more analysis and more rebalancing. I did not wake up at night, but there were some days where I moved to a more conservative position if I was unsure about the evening hours. I also experimented with setting an automated rule if the BTC price fell too much.

Which asset really pulled you to the top?

I knew DeFi tokens like CRV and YFI would find a bottom and rebound during the month and a week into November they did. That really gave me a boost, along with XRP, until around the 23rd of November. The strategy rules, plus a bit of luck, helped me to time the top quite well, so when the market dropped around the 25th/26th, my strategy went further up to the top of the list. I was into less volatile assets for those few days.

Do you usually rebalance with the same risk as you did during the contest? Less risky/riskier?

I don't think I was taking on more or less risk, but the rebalancing was more intense, as I was experimenting with analysis in smaller timeframes.

What would you suggest for other managers on the platform?

Get a logo! It looks so nice on the ICONOMI pages. I also think it is great to write frequent posts. I invest in a lot of strategies and really appreciate the updates.

How do you promote your strategy outside of ICONOMI?

In short, Youtube and Twitter. I use Twitter on a daily basis to stay up to date with the development in the industry and write quick updates regarding my strategy. Youtube, on the other hand, I currently use for weekly updates, where I highlight the top 5 news articles of the week as well as comment on the market and our strategy rebalances.

How did you gain followers during the contest?

I think this is a combination of great results and consistency. I started my strategy almost two years ago and have a quite long track record, was constantly delivering great results, and have always actively managed my strategy. The energy I put into the management of my strategy, content, and updates I post on a daily basis have now started to result in an increased number of followers/copiers. A big factor here is also a word of mouth. I have a lot of early investors in my strategy, who I personally know, have recommended my strategy to their friends in recent months when the interest in crypto started to pick up. Happy customers are one of the best marketing tools in any business and crypto is no different!

Do you feel Youtube is an effective tool to communicate with your followers?

Definitely, Youtube is a great platform for longer-form video content and an awesome tool for building trust, which is key when it comes to gaining new followers/copiers. In recent years, video has become the king of content for a reason. If you just think about it for a second, what do you prefer? A blog post or a short video? I think we can all agree that the video is much better for engaging the followers and keeping them informed. For content creators, Youtube provides also great analytics tools that help you analyze your content and improve it so you can reach an even bigger audience.

What kind of feature would you like to see ICONOMI implement so you can gain more followers?

In the future, once more managers start producing their video content, there could be a special section with video updates separated from the posts you can now see at the bottom of the discover page.

Do you see a correlation between your strategy performance and gaining followers? How?

There is definitely some correlation. If nothing else, more people tend to join the platform, search for crypto-related keywords, and watch my videos when the prices go up.

Which social media channel is the best for promoting your strategy?

Youtube with its 2 billion active users is without a doubt a go-to platform for promoting anything! Since there are a lot of content creators, it is quite hard to stand out. But, if you can create unique and engaging content, the rewards are huge!
